DYMO printers require two extra programs so that we can properly use them with Hero:
DYMO Connect
DYMO Connect Web Service
Here are the steps to install these and use them with Hero on Windows.
Use the "Select by Machine" option:
-
Make sure you select the right model on the list (in this case, DYMO LabelWriter 450), Windows as the operating system, and the Windows version you are using (in this case, Windows 11). We also need to choose the latest version of the DYMO Connect software available for the printer and the Windows version. For the DYMO 450, we have v1.4.9.
4. Open the installation file downloaded in Chrome:
5. Follow the instructions from the InstallShield for DYMO Connect; we must use the complete version:
6. Check if these two programs were added: DYMO Connect and DYMO Connect Web Service.
7. DYMO Connect should open a setup like this and show the DYMO as connected if it's properly plugged in to the computer and the power source:
8. We also need to open the DYMO Connect Web Service, which will show as an icon on the taskbar at the bottom-right (as a small DYMO icon):
9. If both of these are installed and working properly, we can do the setup in Hero.
hero.schoolmint.com > Config > Select USB Device:
Select Printer > Choose the DYMO printer from the Chrome Pop-up, and it should be ready to print:
Troubleshooting
If the DYMO LabelWriter is showing an error or it's not printing at all, we need to exit the DYMO Connect Web Service at the bottom-right of the taskbar, refresh Hero (Control +R), and try to pair the printer again, choosing the device from the list.
1. Close the Web Service using the task manager.
Windows Button > Search for Task Manager:
Find the DYMO Web Service App > Right Click > End task:
Reopen DYMO Connect Web Service. Windows Button > DYMO Connect:
2. Refresh Hero (Control + R), then select the printer from the list again (Config > Select USB device):
Notes: - Ending the process and reopening the DYMO Web Service is a crucial step if the printer is not working and it might take more than one try for the DYMO Service to properly connect. - The current approved DYMO printers by Hero are the LabelWriter 450 and 450 Turbo on the main Desktop Version of Hero and Kiosk mode. - Both Hero Web and Kiosk uses WebUSB API in order to handle the USB connection between any printer and the browser. At the point of writing this documentation, the WebUSB API is only fully compatible in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers (see compatibility chart) Mozilla Firefox and Safari are NOT compatible with WebUSB Drivers. |
