Overview
Bell Schedules define the timing of periods, blocks, or increments within your school day. Setting these up accurately ensures that attendance prompts and reporting align with your school's physical bells.
Creating a New Bell Schedule
1. To create a new Bell Schedule, navigate to Config > Bell Schedules. Select the blue + Bell Schedule button in the upper right-hand corner of the Bell Schedule page.
2. Give the Bell Schedule a Name and Description, then click Save.
3. On the next page, add as many periods/blocks/increments as you need in your schedule. Ensure the start and end times are precise to avoid reporting overlaps.
|
Note: Note: In order to add a period, the period must be available from the dropdown. The dropdown populates periods based on the Schedule Import. Learn more about the Schedule Import process Schedule Import Process here. |
4. If this schedule should be the primary bell schedule for your school, check the Set As Default box located below the bell schedule description.
Note: The Default schedule is automatically assigned to any calendar days where no other specific bell schedule has been applied.
5. Click Save.
Updating Bell Schedules
To update a Bell Schedule in SchoolMint Hero, navigate to Bell Schedules via Config > Bell Schedules.
On the Bell Schedules page, you will see any Bell Schedules that have already been created. To edit an existing Bell Schedule, click the pencil icon on the right end of the relevant row.
Managing Periods
You may need to edit an External Reference Code if the code does not match the code of your SIS. To edit Reference codes, select Manage Periods in the upper-right corner of the Bell Schedule page. Click the edit pencil icon to make changes.
Clean Up Periods
The Clean Up button on the Manage Periods page can remove any periods that are not attached to student schedules. If you have extraneous periods that you want to remove, select Clean Up and follow the instructions on the pop-up. This action cannot be undone.
Additional Information about Reference Codes:
A reference code is the data expression that is used on the schedule file we import which denotes the period or block for class periods. A number of different factors make them vary from school to school.
We recommend that you verify that the reference codes on the bell schedules are correct by first confirming the reference codes in your SIS and then verifying the Hero bell schedule reference codes match.
