What's included in this article?
Context: This article provides a guide on integrating tardy data from SchoolMint Hero back into your School Information System (SIS). This process involves enabling a setting in Hero, selecting the appropriate tardy code, entering the corresponding SIS code, adjusting the bell schedule, and sending a request for tardy integration to herosupport@schoolmint.com. The Hero Support Team will work with your district IT to set up the connection.
Note: This integration only works with ONE school-wide bell schedule. |
Parameters for SIS Write-Back
It is possible to write tardy data from SchoolMint Hero back to your SIS if:
- Your district supports this and helps set it up
- Your SIS is capable of receiving the files
How to Configure Tardy Write-Back
STEP 1: Log into your SchoolMint Hero site.
STEP 2: Navigate to Behavior Codes via Config > Behavior Codes.
STEP 3: Locate the Behavior Code you want to configure write-back for (if it's created) and select the edit button (pencil icon) on the right side of the row.
STEP 3.1 (If code is not created): Click "Create Behavior Code" in the upper right-hand corner. Add Code name, description and message to print on the pass.
STEP 4: Locate the External Behavior Code (below "Message" and above "Type" on the left side of the screen). Enter the code that corresponds with the code you want to write back to on your SIS. Click Save.
Note: The external code must match your SIS code exactly as it appears for the tracked behavior. |
STEP 5: Navigate to Bell Schedules via Config > Bell Schedules. As a best practice, you should ensure that your bell schedule has no transition gaps.
For example: If your schedule has Period 1 from 8:00-9:15 and Period 2 goes from 9:20-10:30, you will need to eliminate the gap between 9:15 and 9:20.
STEP 6: Send the name of your district data contact and a request for tardy integration to herosupport@schoolmint.com.
Our customer care team will reach out to your district IT to set up the connection. Once it is established, you will troubleshoot this in collaboration with your district IT and your customer success specialist. It is always a good idea to have specific example students for the support team if you are having sync issues.
FAQs

-
I have different bell schedules for each grade level. Can I write back tardy data?
- No. Hero tardy integration only works with one school-wide bell schedule, which must be set every day in order to ensure the write-back is successful.
