Creating Student Accounts
Student accounts are created in one of two ways: via student import or through manually creating individual accounts on the Students page (see image below).
Heads Up! You cannot add a student email after manually creating a student account, so ensure that you enter it correctly if adding a student account manually. |
Activating Student Accounts
After accounts are created using one of the two methods described above, the accounts are in the system, but students will not have passwords to log in.
Tip: Unlike guardian accounts, which send the guardian an email to activate, student accounts will need to be activated by a teacher. This is because, often, student emails reject/bounce emails sent from outside the school domain. |
- To activate student accounts, navigate to Behavior > Students.
- Select all student accounts that need to be activated by clicking on the respective tile(s).
3. After selecting all accounts, click the Bulk Operations button in the upper left corner. Select Reset Passwords.
4. You will see a popup with two options for printing: Paper Saver or Print on Separate Pages.
(1) Paper Saver will print all student account information on as few pages as possible. This means that the teacher will need to cut the passwords or intentionally show them to the relevant students one at a time.
(2) Print on Separate Pages will print student account information on an individual piece of paper per student.
5. Once students log in (via hero.schoolmint.net), their accounts are activated.
Reset Student Password after Activation
If a student loses or forgets their password, you can reset their password on the Accounts tab of the Student Profile Page or via the bulk action described above.
- Navigate to the Student Profile Page by clicking on the pop-out arrow on the upper right corner of the student's tile (found on Behaviors > Students).
2. Click on the Accounts tab on the student profile, then select Reset Password.
Heads Up! The Reset Password button will only appear here after a student has activated their account using the above method. |
3. After clicking on Reset Password, the following popup will appear, allowing you to share the password directly with the student on the screen or via printing.
Deactivating Student Accounts
Student accounts are deactivated when they are removed from the SFTP import file.
Note: Deactivation via import will only work for school-level imports. |
- If your school-level import runs Daily, then students who are removed from the file (usually because they were removed from your SIS) will be removed from Hero when the daily sync import runs.
- If you selected a different frequency for imports, the students will be deactivated on that frequency.
- If you imported a flat, one-time file, you can remove the student(s) from the file and re-import the flat file at the school-level to deactivate the student(s).
Note: If you import student information through a third-party source such as Clever, there is usually a longer period (est. 2-3 days) for the students to become deactivated. |
