For optimal performance with our software, the DT4x+ desktop printer needs to be set up with the correct firmware and drivers. Follow these steps, ensuring an IT professional at your school completes them, as some settings require admin rights and specific configurations.
Preliminary Step (Only if You’ve Used the Zadig Tool Before): Reset to Default Driver
If you have not used the Zadig tool previously, you can skip this section and go directly to Step 1.
If you have used the Zadig tool before, please follow these instructions to reset your DT4x+ printer to its default driver:
- Plug your DT4x+ printer into your PC and turn it on.
- Open PC Settings.
- Click on Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus devices and select DT4x+.
- Right-click, then choose Update Driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Select USB Printing Support and click Next.
This will reset the printer’s original driver so that we can update the firmware in the next steps.
Step 1: Check the Printer Firmware Version
- Power off the DT4x+ printer.
- Press and hold the Feed button (typically yellow or light blue) at the top of the printer.
- While holding the Feed button, turn the printer on.
- Continue holding the Feed button until the red light flashes several times or you hear three beeps.
- Release the Feed button when either the light flashes or beeps occur.
- The printer will print a Configuration Report with the Firmware version.
If your firmware version is V4.020 or V4.020b or below, proceed to Step 2 to update.
Here is a video that shows how to do it
Step 2: Update the Firmware (If Applicable)
Before updating, please ensure other devices connected to your computer (e.g., laser printers) are powered off.
- Download the Utility Tool and the firmware linked below.
- Open the Utility Tool
- Select Download Firmware in the tool.
- Navigate to the latest DT4x+ firmware file name (Cloud ATMEL V4.022b (241023-01).BIN), which should be selected, and click Open.
- Wait until the status bar reaches 100%; at this point, the printer’s LED will flash red.
- Important: Do not turn off or disturb the printer while the light is flashing.
- When the update completes, the printer will restart, and the LED will turn green, indicating a successful firmware update.
Step 3: Configure the Printer with Zadig
Once the firmware is updated and the default drivers are installed, configure your DT4x+ printer using the Zadig app:
- Open the Zadig app (download link below if needed).
- Under the Options dropdown, ensure List All Devices is selected.
- From the dropdown menu, choose DT4x+, or BP-DT-4.
- On the right side of the window, select usbprint (v10.0.22621.4249) as the driver, then click Install or Replace Driver.
Step 4: Restart Your Computer
To apply the changes, restart your computer. This will ensure your system fully recognizes the new drivers and configuration.
